Personal Favourites 4: Flash animator

The last time we did a "personal favourites" it was ... January. Im gonna continue it, and this blog is about Egoraptor.
Egoraptor is a flash animator with flash animations found on newgrounds. Despite the weak drawings, his creative animation skills and the way he animates the characters makes his segments funnier than they already are. Here are some of his videos (the videos are off of youtube but the quality is better in newgrounds):

The AWESOME series is a set of flash animations that make fun of the games. If you've played Trauma Center you'll understand this video. If you don't get this one, or if you love it, Egoraptor has made animations of Metal gear solid, final fantasy 7 and gears of war :P

This clip was from a collaboration between a lot of newground's flash animators. I'DLIKESOMEPOUNDCAKE!

Another notable flash animation is "Girlchan in Paradise." Long, but funny :P. look him up on newgrounds! Egoraptor

Fish N' Chips

Today after class I headed out with Juan to get some food from M&M, but before we did we went to Baker's Cove for lunch. Juan and Christine have been telling me for a while to try eating there for their food and I've always wanted to try it. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really Homey with big comfy chairs and a little game to keep you preoccupied while you wait for your food. Apparently everything is cooked to order and nothing is pre-cooked and on their site they say they will not jeopardize quality for speed. This is okay because the little peg board puzzle game kept us busy. It even kept us there a little after we finished our food because we couldn't figure it out. Anyway, even though this is my first time at this restaurant I HIGHLY recommend it! The Fish N Chips they served tasted Soooo good and the tartar sauce was also homemade. Can't wait to go back...

If any of you like fish n chips and happen to be in Kitchener/Waterloo, find Baker's Cove on 355 Erb street West.

K- pop!

It was a good idea making it english. I bet a lot of people who listen to K-pop don't understand the language. In my opinion this cover worked pretty good :P what do you think?

also... If you see the original video there's a surprise at the end. If I understood the lyrics would it have given away the ending right at the beginning of the song? lol
also... how did K pop get so popular with people here?

Asian or Pacific Islander?

This debate is still ongoing among filipinos and other peoples. So what are filipinos? Asians? or Pacific islanders? Well geographically speaking, we are asians. Our country is near the asiatic countries which include malaysia, singapore, vietnam, etc. Culturally speaking.... we are far different from the typical oriental nations.

Language:

Our language alone derives from many different cultures. Primarily a mix of spanish, malay, and some (but not too evident) polynesian speech. Because of that malay influence, I'd say we are asian in terms of language (although far be it from Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese). Our early alphabet (babayin) is similar to Hindu script even though its roots are in austronesian culture. Hinduism being the world's oldest religion has likely influenced austronesian culture.

Score: Asian (1) Pacific Islander (0)

Roots:

We are a mixed people, but the first people to have existed on the Philippine Islands have been of the austronesian race and the negrito race. The aeta (negrito) and other early indigenous people look more similar to the other polynesian races, in terms of skin tone, dress, and cultural background (head-hunting, tattoos, etc.)

A Negrito Family. One of the Philippines Indigenous Peoples

The early mongoloid race. The tree which the other asian races derived from.

The typical austronesian man. I think this is what most filipinos look like. One of the roots of the Filipino people.

Score: Asian (1) Pacific Islander (1)

Religion:

Christianity is growing in other parts of Asia and in Korea in particular it is booming. Philippines is the only predominantly Christian nation in Asia and Christianity is the biggest religion in other polynesian countries such as Samoa, Fiji, and Hawaii.

Score: Asian (1) Pacific Islander (2)

Food:

Well the obvious influences of asian cuisine in Filipino dishes would be that of pancit canton, and even adobo. Adobo is seasoned with soysauce an obviously asian sauce. Tamarind soups such as sinigang are also often found in vietnam, cambodia, and other parts of asia. Fried pork like our beloved Lechon is more of a polynesian style of cooking, as well as the style of eating with our hands (kamayan). It's a close one but I'd give this one to the Asian side because even Balut is eaten among vietnamese people under a different name.

Score: Asian (2) Pacific Islander (2)

Conclusion:

We are filipino. Obvious enough. We are a mix of both categories. Geographically we are Asian, Phylogenetically, we are pacific islanders. We are pretty much pacific islanders in Asia. Asian Pacific islanders. When some one asks me to choose between the two?
Personally I respond with Pacific Islander. Island culture is far different from those from mainland asia. We are a more relaxed peoples who can have a good time and express ourselves through music, art, and dance. My tattoo is not the asian tiger or dragon or koi with calligraphy. It's tribal in origin. I don't think geographic location should define what your peoples really are because then I would say I'm Canadian-Filipino and not Filipino-Canadian. As a student of science I follow phylogenetic backgrounds and I'm proud of having my roots with the austronesian people. Asians are awesome don't get me wrong. I just find myself identifying more with Island culture, from the tattoos to the dance rather than the long silk suits and the big grand palaces of asian culture. (food is awesome both ways though :D)

Effort

I'd like to take this moment to share my appreciation for all those who make a solid effort. It's a rare thing these days and it often goes unnoticed. This is because everyone nowadays don't realize how much effort others around them put into whatever they are doing.

For instance, my filipino club execs. Mike and Rachel. Honestly I love you guys haha. I want to take this moment to say you guys honestly run the club. I am nothing w/o how much effort you guys put into running it. You probably see it as something you just do but like you guys are hella busy with school, and other things but you guys are still at it. I Appreciate that. Thank you.

Another sign of effort is when people visit waterloo from toronto. (Yes Ren and all u FX people). That is an effort to keep friendships and relationships alive. Even with Instant messaging, facebook or w/e... that is just half-assing friendships. But these people.. driving through snow storms and shit?.... thats inspiring to see solid efforts being made in maintaining true friendships.

Gary, Danny, and Trinh. You guys help me with school, with cooking, with having a good time. Honestly I can't LIVE in loo without you people. These are my reals, my closest always. They make an effort everyday without realizing it by their generosity, their friendship, and the time they share with me.

I'm going to step my effort up and I hope I didn't lack in any for all those reading this. There are alot more people I would love to show appreciation for but I got to get to sleep. If you read my other blog you'll see that I hope my peoples back in toronto step their game up as well.

Peace in the middle east
